Business and Human Rights Analyst

About the role

The UNDP Business and Human Rights Analyst in Sarajevo supports the ARTI BiH project, which strengthens responsible business conduct in Bosnia and Herzegovina through policy dialogue, capacity building and the application of human rights and environmental due diligence standards. The analyst provides day-to-day coordination and substantive support to project activities, working with government institutions, the private sector, academia, financial institutions and business support organizations. The post is under the direct supervision of the Sustainable Growth Sector Leader.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement project activities according to the approved work plan, prepare work plans and schedules, monitor progress and follow up on deliverables.
• Organize meetings, consultations, policy dialogues, workshops and trainings, and prepare reports, briefing notes and presentations.
• Provide technical support on responsible business conduct, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and Human Rights Due Diligence, including the roadmap for a National Action Plan.
• Prepare analytical inputs, guidance materials and technical documentation, and help develop practical tools and the concept of a digital HRDD/RBC self-assessment tool.
• Engage companies, SMEs, business associations and Chambers of Commerce, and coordinate capacity-building and awareness-raising for the private sector.
• Work with the Association of Banks of BiH, the Central Bank of BiH and commercial banks to integrate Business and Human Rights into risk assessment and advisory practices.
• Ensure gender equality and human rights considerations are reflected in planning and implementation, and support gender-responsive stakeholder engagement.
• Collect and analyze monitoring data, document results and lessons learned, and support knowledge management and dissemination.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in economics, human rights, business administration, public administration, law, international relations, political sciences, development studies or a related field; a Bachelor's degree in the same fields plus two years of relevant experience is also considered.
• Previous experience in project coordination and implementation with multiple stakeholders, and strong experience working with public institutions, private sector actors, financial institutions, academia and civil society.
• Previous experience providing technical support to private sector actors, SMEs, business associations or Business Development Support Organizations.
• Fluency in Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian and in English.

Required skills

• Familiarity with responsible business conduct, Business and Human Rights and/or Human Rights Due Diligence concepts.
• Proficiency with computer software, including MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint.
• Desirable: experience in Business and Human Rights, ESG, sustainability, financial-sector engagement, gender mainstreaming and work with international organizations.
